Meet the founder

Hello, I'm Kate, the founder of Kate Mills Therapies and a paediatric speech and language therapist with a passion for supporting children to communicate, connect and express themselves in their own way.

Since graduating in 2020, I have worked within the NHS, developing my experience from newly qualified to highly specialist speech and language therapist. Alongside my NHS role, I began working privately in 2023, initially supporting a small number of children and families alongside my NHS work. In September 2024, I increased my private practice to one day a week, before moving into independent practice full-time in May 2025.

My experience across different levels of clinical practice has helped shape my approach to therapy and strengthened my commitment to providing thoughtful, individualised support for every child.

Why I Founded Kate Mills Therapies

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is building relationships with children and their families over time. Getting to know each child as an individual, understanding what matters to them and working closely with their parents and carers allows me to provide support that feels personal, meaningful and relevant to everyday life.

I wanted to create a practice where I could develop these relationships, provide consistent support and help children make progress towards goals that matter to them and their families. Establishing Kate Mills Therapies has also allowed me to focus more closely on my specialist areas of interest, continue investing in professional learning and development, and build a sustainable way of working that supports high-quality care.

Above all, I want families to feel listened to, involved and supported. I believe that every child has something to communicate, and that understanding how each child communicates is an important first step towards helping them grow in confidence and connection.

Professional Registration, Memberships & Safeguarding

I am committed to maintaining high professional standards and providing safe, thoughtful and evidence-informed support for children and their families.

As the founder of Kate Mills Therapies, I hold registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).

My practice is also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and I maintain an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Everyone working as a speech and language therapist within Kate Mills Therapies has up-to-date HCPC registration, RCSLT membership and a current DBS check. We are committed to maintaining appropriate professional standards and safeguarding the children and families we support.

How We Can Help

At Kate Mills Therapies, we support early years and primary school-aged children with a range of speech, language and communication needs. Our approach is personalised to each child, recognising their strengths, interests and individual way of communicating.
We specialise in supporting children and young people with the following areas of need:

Social communication differences

Autism

Gestalt Language Processing (GLP)

Neurodiversity-affirming practice

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Language delay and late talking

Selective Mutism

Speech Sound

Disorders

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

And more

...

We recognise that every child is different, and children may have several areas of need that overlap. Support is tailored to the individual child and developed in partnership with their family, with a focus on meaningful communication, connection and participation in everyday life.

Areas Outside Our Primary Specialisms

Areas we do not currently specialise in providing primary support for:

  • Stammering

  • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)

  • Hearing loss

If your child has one of these needs alongside other communication needs that fall within our areas of specialism, support may still be appropriate. This will depend on your child's individual profile and the support they require.

If we're not the right service for your child's primary needs, we can discuss this with you and, where possible, help you consider what type of support may be more suitable.

Not sure whether we can help? Get in touch to discuss your child's needs and explore the options available.

Every child deserves to be understood.

We take a personalised, child-centred approach to speech and language therapy, working in partnership with families to support communication, connection and confidence.

Let's take the next step together.
